Sedona, AZ /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ –  The 2024 RunSedona event (5K/10K/Half Marathon) was a huge success, with 3,000 runners participating in this year’s races.

RunSedona’s beautiful location among the red rocks of Sedona is a huge draw for runners. 86% of runners traveled over 50 miles to participate in the event with over 65% of runners participating for the first time. Female athletes comprised 65% of race participants, many of whom participated as a part of a running club.

“I have been a part of this event since 2010 and it never disappoints. In fact, everything about it has been a study in organizational skills and community pride,” said athlete Kitty Riggs.

RunSedona is proving to have a positive impact during winter season. Spending associated with RunSedona over the weekend accounted for over $1.7 million in direct and indirect expenses with most runners spending three days in the area and traveling with an additional companion. Participants spent an average of $280 on lodging, $150 on food and beverage, and $50 on transportation per day while in town for the event.

“We continue to see increased interest in RunSedona with runners traveling from out of state and even out of the country for this event,” explained Race Director Jeffery Frost of BlueWolf Events. “The scenic landscape and temperate weather of Sedona are a huge draw for runners looking to escape the February snow. This year’s focus on runner experience really paid off with over 93% of our athletes planning to run again in 2025, an impressive feat!”

An important facet of the event is the RunSedona contribution to the local community. This year athletes donated over $2660 to the Sedona Community Food Bank. An additional $250 donation was made by RunSedona to winners of the Best Aid Station contest (as selected by participants). The Northern Arizona Trail Runners Association teamed up with Verde Valley School to support runners in true Barbie fashion. Many racers joined in the post-event “plogging” event that combined a recovery jog on the course while picking up leftover race day trash along the way.

The enthusiasm has already started for 2025’s event. A special year for RunSedona the event will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary and take place on February 1, 2025. Over 330 runners registered during for the 20th annual celebration, and it is guaranteed to be a race to remember.
