As the iconic event gears up for its 46th annual run on St. Patrick’s Day – Sunday, March 17, 2024 – local organizers are excited to reaffirm the event’s commitment to supporting the hospital’s mission of providing exceptional care to children and families in the community.

Since 2002, the Shamrock Run has served as a steadfast supporter for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, raising more $815,000 to date. The enduring partnership has played a crucial role in funding groundbreaking research in its unwavering support for the Friends of Doernbecher Grant Program which funds innovative projects and cutting-edge research that directly benefit current and future Doernbecher patients and families.
In a significant move to bolster support for the hospital, the Shamrock Run has pledged that 100% of registration fees from the Leprechaun Lap, a special event tailored for children will be donated directly to the Friends of Doernbecher Grant Program. This direct allocation underscores the Shamrock Run’s dedication to advancing pediatric health and well-being through targeted local philanthropy.
“Portland’s Shamrock Run has been a steadfast supporter of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for over two decades, enabling us to pursue innovative projects and initiatives that positively impact the lives of our patients and their families,” said Cindy McEvoy, M.D., MCR, professor of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology at OHSU.
In addition to the Leprechaun Lap, the Shamrock Run offers a range of race distances, from a half-marathon to a 5K, providing opportunities for participants of all ages and abilities to get involved. Participants for all race distances can also choose to donate to Doernbecher at the time of registration. The event culminates in a vibrant finish line festival at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, complete with live entertainment and a beer garden, fostering a sense of community and celebration.
