September 12, 2024, San Francisco, CA /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The San Francisco Marathon (SFM) is proud to support their ambassador, DeadSkout, as he embarks on an extraordinary coast-to-coast run to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Beginning in Santa Monica, CA, on September 13, 2024, DeadSkout (also known as Skout) will challenge himself to run over 3,000 miles across 13 states, aiming to complete the journey in under 50 days.
Skout’s mission goes beyond just running — it’s about advocating for mental health. Inspired by his personal struggles and his dedication to helping others, Skout is using this monumental effort to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health resources. His run is in support of the Child Mind Institute, a leading nonprofit that provides care and educational resources to children and families dealing with mental health issues.
“This is not just about averaging about 60-65 miles a day, though that is a lot of running,” said Skout. “I want to reach out to anyone struggling with mental health issues and show them that there’s hope and support.”
Fans, supporters, and mental health advocates can participate by donating to Skout’s journey. Contributions benefit the Child Mind Institute, which is devoted to helping struggling children and families. As a thank-you, donors will receive an exclusive 2024 San Francisco Marathon participant shirt. Additional perks will be given for higher donation tiers. Learn more and register to support here.
Skout is no stranger to this challenge. In 2023, he completed a similar cross-country run in 58 days but promised himself a greater challenge for this year: to finish in under 50 days. Running solo for most of the way, Skout will pass through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
Thanks to support from the San Francisco Marathon, which is providing logistical support and three pairs of PUMA Running Shoes, Skout will have the necessary equipment and assistance to make his run a success. “They’ll be handling logistics and social outreach so I can focus on running,” Skout shared.
Follow Skout’s progress on Instagram @TheSFMarathon, where daily updates, behind-the-scenes content, and encouragement from the community will be shared throughout his journey.
