Portland, Ore. – October 10, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Shamrock Half Marathon Run Fest presented by Toyota, is thrilled to announce the launch of SheRock, a new initiative dedicated to empowering and supporting girls in running. As the popular Portland tradition gears up for its 47th running on March 16, 2025, SheRock aims to inspire young female athletes by partnering with three outstanding local nonprofits: SHE FLIES, Girls on the Run, and Wildwood Running.
“Portland, Oregon has the best running community in the world and we are thrilled to launch SheRock, an initiative dedicated to empowering and supporting girls in running,” said Alex Jee, Community Manager for the Shamrock Run Fest. “Around 2,000 runners under the age of 18 join the Shamrock Run every year and our goal is to promote both physical and mental well-being through existing programs right here in our Portland community.”
The SheRock initiative will directly benefit three Portland-based organizations that focus on empowering girls through sports and physical activity:
- SHE FLIES: A nonprofit that connects girls and women across Oregon to sports, creating inclusive communities through their programs, partnerships, and networks.
- Girls on the Run: This program inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
- Wildwood Running: Dedicated to providing clinics, workshops, and camps for coaches and girls, Wildwood Running supports female-bodied athletes through education and empowerment.
“These organizations are making a significant impact by focusing on girls’ health and well-being through sport,” Jee added. “Through SheRock, we join together to support these incredible nonprofits that impact our own daughters, our own neighbors, our own athletes—the future of our Portland running community.”
The Shamrock Run Fest is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of Portland’s community spirit and a platform for meaningful change. SheRock aims to inspire the next generation of female runners by providing them with opportunities to participate in programs that promote physical activity, self-confidence and community involvement. Participants can choose to donate to SheRock during their Shamrock Run registration, with all donations being split evenly among the three nonprofit organizations.
“By supporting SheRock, you’re not just registering for a race; you’re investing in the future of Portland’s running community. Join us in celebrating and supporting these amazing programs that inspire our girl athletes,” said Jee. “These organizations are creating safe, supportive environments where girls can thrive, learn, and grow through running. Don’t miss out—register now, and let’s paint the town green together at Shamrock 2025.”
The Shamrock Run Fest has established itself as a cornerstone of Portland’s vibrant running culture. This year, the event will once again feature the famed Shamrock Showdown 8K, an exclusive half-marathon, and the new Terwilliger Challenge—a test of endurance that pays homage to the city’s iconic climb. Participants and spectators alike can enjoy a festive weekend of music, food, and fun at the post-race Finish Line Festival, held in partnership with the Kells Portland Irish Festival.
Runners can register now for the 2025 Shamrock Run Fest and choose to donate to the SheRock initiative during registration. Every contribution, big or small, helps empower the young girls who will lead the future of Portland’s running community.
