Coronado, CA – October 18, 2024 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/– The 11th Annual Coronado Turkey Trot, presented by Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary Coronado Unit, is set to take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Tidelands Park. This community-favorite 5K run/walk, which sells out every year, will raise funds for the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.

This year’s event features Xavier Marsh, a Coronado High School student, as an ambassador. Xavier was diagnosed with Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), a mitochondrial disease that caused him to lose his central vision at the age of 13. Despite his vision loss, Xavier continues to live a full life, participating in Boy Scouts, competing on his Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams, and engaging in adventurous activities like mountain biking and skiing. Xavier’s incredible resilience and determination serve as an inspiration to all, embodying the event’s spirit of perseverance and community support.

In addition to supporting a worthy cause, all race participants will receive a participant shirt and an exclusive finisher medal to commemorate their achievement.

“We are incredibly grateful for Rady Children’s Hospital and the care they’ve provided Xavier,” says Xavier’s mother, Malinda Marsh. “Through this race, we hope to raise awareness and funds for other families facing similar challenges, knowing that anything is possible with the right support.”
